Naun (Termitomyces, termite mushroom; Otjiherero: omayova) are very large grey-white mushrooms, with caps of up to 30 cm in diameter not being unusual. It is widely distributed in Namibia, and also occurs in the Etosha area. As the scientific name of the genus implies, its location is unique in that it grows exclusively on termite mounds, immediately after the first rains. The fruiting body of the fungus can be roasted or prepared in numerous other ways, and is a prized delicacy amongst most Namibians.
